A manufacturer owns brands and is used for reporting and filtering only. A manufacturer never carries citations itself; its brands and their products do. The manufacturer should come from either the retailers' product feeds or from the product links that are acquired when scraping content. If a manufacturer cannot be determined, a placeholder must be added, since a brand cannot exist without a manufacturer, and a product cannot exist with a brand. Citations can only be attached to brands, categories, and products.
